چکیده

Diffuse emission from the Milky Way dominates the γ-ray sky. About 80% of the high-energy luminosity of the Milky Way comes from processes in the interstellar medium. The Galactic diffuse emission traces interactions of energetic particles, primarily protons and electrons, with the interstellar gas and radiation field, thus delivering information about cosmic-ray spectra and interstellar mass in distant locations. Additionally, the Galactic diffuse emission is the celestial foreground for the study of γ-ray point sources and the extragalactic diffuse γ-ray emission. We will report on the latest developments in the modelling of the Galactic diffuse emission, which will be used for the Gamma Ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST) investigations.

Effects of the gas content on the Gamma-ray emission from the Galactic bulge

We use the recent model for the distribution of interstellar gas in the Galactic bulge developed by Ferrière et al. (2007) [1] together with the Galprop numerical code to compute the Galactic diffuse gamma-ray emission due to cosmic rays. We then compare our computed Galactic diffuse gamma-ray sky with the previous results obtained with Galprop. Based on the differences between the models of ga...

Fermi LAT Measurements of the Diffuse Gamma-Ray Emission at Intermediate Galactic Latitudes

The diffuse Galactic γ-ray emission is produced by cosmic rays (CRs) interacting with the interstellar gas and radiation field. Measurements by the Energetic Gamma-Ray Experiment Telescope (EGRET) instrument on the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory (CGRO) indicated excess γ-ray emission ≥ 1 GeV relative to diffuse Galactic γ-ray emission models consistent with directly measured CR spectra (the so-c...

Pulsarspectrum: Simulating Gamma-ray Pulsars for the Glast Mission

Pulsars are among the most exciting gamma ray sources in the Universe and can serve as unique sites for the study of emission processes in extreme physical environments. The Gamma ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST) will increase dramatically our knowledge of gamma ray pulsars physics. In particular the Large Area Telescope (LAT), the main GLAST instrument, will provide more detailed observa...

Small Molecular Clouds at High Latitudes as Gamma-Ray Sources for GLAST

The sensitivity of the Large Area Telescope (LAT) on the forthcoming GLAST mission will be so much greater than previous high-energy γ-ray missions that small molecular clouds at intermediate and high Galactic latitudes (|b| > 10) will be detected in the light of diffuse γ-ray emission from cosmic-ray interactions. These clouds are small, typically subtending less than 1 with masses ∼10–100 sol...

Constraining Dark Matter hypothesis through Diffuse Source observations with the GLAST-LAT detector

The Gamma-Ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST), scheduled to be launched in Fall 2007, is a next generation high energy gamma-ray observatory. The Large Area Telescope (LAT) instrument on-board GLAST with a wide field of view (> 2 sr), large effective area and 20 MeV to >300 GeV energy range, will provide excellent opportunity for future Dark Matter studies. We present an overview of the GLAS...
